RGV New Media

Conversations by the Rio Grande Valley New Media community.

As we end what would be considered by many to be a groundbreaking year for New Media and Social Networking, I'm curious as to our plans for 2008.

As much as we, the early-adopters, love these tools there are still a lot of folks out there who are clueless. I do believe that in 2008 video will be an even more powerful platform. With YouTube continuing its domination and new companies like Seesmic entering the market it could be that 2008 is the year of online video.

For me 2007 was groundbreaking in that we created a statewide event that had never been done in Texas. PodCamp San Antonio. In 2008 we will host our second event on May 3rd. What will be new for 2008 is something that has been done successfully in other cities. I'm working on bringing Startup Weekend to San Antonio on May 17th. Plans are all in the preliminary stages so feel free to join in the fun.

What are your plans for utilizing Web 2.0 tools for your personal and business life?

Well I am joining up with Shaine, so I don't really know what or where we are going to go with the plans and what comes up. As long as we continue to network and develop our skills, I believe it will be beneficial...keep in touch with me and I will do the same and who knows what can come out of it from a business perspective...
thanks

I had to give this one some thought.

I think we should start working on inviting people to PodCamp San Antonio already. Many of the replies I got when sending out emails last time were that I needed to give more advance notice. For me this coming year I think will be all about collaboration. I saw how useful social media can be from helping you and the gang throw together PCSA.

I would love to collaborate on more projects in the same way.

It's one thing to use social media for fun. It's another thing to use it for actually doing projects. I think that will be my focus this year, using social media for "business". My presence thus far has brought opportunities, which I think social media can nurture into business relationships. That will be 2008, transition from purely personal to business and personal.

We have decided to consider raising money for the documentary project. I don't think we need a big budget, it's mostly to cover costs like gas and meals while we are out and about. The video itself will be something that could be shown in schools or at events where the history of our town is a topic of discussion. We want it to be useful for the community. So, by providing the video to the community for free, we hope that the distribution will encourage sponsors.

Today, we laid out the general direction of the script. Next meeting, we are going to fill in details. In January, we'll get around to storyboarding the video shots. Since this is currently out of pocket, we have be sure to plan everything out so we don't waste time and money. Sergio says that we might have somebody lined up to do our voiceover narration.

What about creating a ChipIn account for the documentary? I know the VideoBloggers do projects like Have Money Will Vlog to help raise money.

A nice bonus for folks donating would be to give them credit/link love etc... at the end of the documentary and on the blog site.

Thoughts?

I don't see a problem with putting anyone who donates to our projects in the credits department, but that is something that has to be decided by both shaine and I...the idea is interesting as are all others...thanks
