Social Media Club?

I have bounced idea of bringing a Social Media Club around in my head lately. As I meet more and more people in the Rio Grande Valley who are interested in the use of Social Media for their business, their causes, or for fun, it makes sense that there should be a place for them to meet. When I started RGV New Media, that was the idea. I wanted to draw out those amongst us who are naturally inclined to use the web to reach out to our communities and beyond. The difference between this group and SMC is that SMC has a structure and community that comes with membership. It's nice to visit other chapters.

We recently had our first tweetup at South Padre Island. Blogging is pretty popular around these parts, especially during campaign season. We have podcasters, photographers, and web designers. I think our region is ready to start developing the same types of communities that are enjoyed in places like San Antonio and Austin. If we think about individual cities, it's a tough sell. However, through a regional approach, there are enough folks who are into social media that we can create something wonderful.
